About me
I studied civil engineering and worked for several years in the United Kingdom. My first job was at a global management and engineering consultancy, where I started as a design engineer.
When we took the first project on site, I came across a whole range of problems I’d never imagined: disagreements between the design team and the construction company, misunderstandings and arguments with contractors, conflicts with various stakeholders, delays in the schedule, poor communication, and so on

Something clicked
I realised then that many of these ‘problems’ could be solved by using common sense, setting up new processes, and efficiently managing the most important resource: people.
Since there wasn’t a role specifically as a ‘problem solver’ (which is what I really enjoy doing), I became a project manager. In this role, I had the chance to get involved in different phases of the project and had a bird’s-eye view that allowed me to tackle the most immediate issues at each stage. Some time later, I left the consultancy to work directly with the client because I was very interested in that change of perspective.
While my daily tasks included budget management, ensuring projects met deadlines, and dealing with all kinds of stakeholders, my main focus was always on increasing efficiency. On one occasion, for example, I managed to save 500K simply by challenging the ‘this is how we’ve always done it’ mindset and approaching it differently.
Curiosity and new goals
My curiosity to understand how projects are managed in other sectors and companies led me to become a freelancer. I wanted to apply everything I’d learned from a meticulous sector like construction to other industries and help smaller businesses with the know-how of large companies.
Working with start-ups and SMEs taught me two things:
- Big companies have very strict bureaucracy that can make simple tasks take forever.
- Small companies lack well-defined methodologies and processes, which makes it hard for them to grow and limits their operational capacity.
